REWARI: Rewari Police have claimed to have cracked the murder of 40-year-old Jitender, whose body was found near the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) refinery on September 7.Police said Jitender was allegedly murdered by his friend, Praveen alias Papla, along with his nephew Aman Kumar, over suspicion that Jitender was having an illicit relationship with Praveen’s wife. Both accused have been arrested.According to police, the incident took place on the road leading towards Bhadawas village, near the HPCL refinery. The investigation was launched after police received information on September 7 that the body of a man was lying on the roadside.ASP Deepika Aggarwal, IPS, told reporters at a press conference on Friday that the Model Town police team rushed to the spot after receiving information about the body.A Scene of Crime team was also called to the location to conduct a detailed inspection and collect scientific evidence.Police said the deceased had sustained deep injuries to his head, apparently caused by a heavy object, and had suffered substantial blood loss.An iPhone was recovered from the pocket of the deceased’s trousers. He was subsequently identified as 40-year-old Jitender, a resident of Kamalpur village.Police took the body into custody and sent it to Civil Hospital, Rewari, for postmortem examination. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family.According to police, Jitender’s uncle Uttam Singh named his fellow villager Praveen alias Papla and another associate in his statement to police, expressing suspicion that they had attacked Jitender on the head and killed him.Following the complaint, a murder case was registered at Model Town police station in Rewari and an investigation was initiated.During the investigation, teams of CIA Rewari and Model Town police worked on technical evidence and confidential inputs. Police said their investigation eventually led to the arrest of Praveen alias Papla and Aman Kumar on Thursday.During interrogation, police said Praveen disclosed the alleged sequence of events leading to the murder.According to police, Praveen suspected that Jitender was involved in an illicit relationship with his wife. Driven by suspicion and resentment, he allegedly decided to eliminate Jitender.Police said that on the day of the incident, Praveen called Jitender to a liquor outlet in Kamalpur village on the pretext of having a beer party.The two subsequently went to a canal culvert, where they drank beer. Praveen then took Jitender along to pick up his nephew Aman Kumar from the Minda company.After picking up Aman, the three allegedly travelled in a car to a secluded road near the HPCL refinery leading towards Bhadawas village.According to the police account, Jitender got out of the vehicle to relieve himself. At that point, Praveen allegedly took advantage of the situation and attacked him from behind with a heavy iron rod kept inside the vehicle.Police said Aman allegedly kept watch on the road and monitored people approaching the area while the attack was carried out.After the alleged murder, the two accused reportedly fled the spot in the vehicle.Police said technical evidence and confidential information played a key role in tracing and arresting the two accused.The accused were produced before a court, which granted police three days’ remand.According to police, the remand will be used to recover the vehicle allegedly used in the crime, the iron rod and other evidence connected with the murder.
