Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir could be set for a move to the Hundred, with reports suggesting Trent Rockets are interested in signing him as a replacement for injured seamer David Payne. Payne suffered a right ankle injury ahead of the tournament, which is scheduled to begin on July 21.
Amir recently joined Nottinghamshire midway through the Vitality Blast after acquiring British citizenship in May. He qualified for citizenship through his wife, who is a British citizen.
“As a British passport holder, Amir will not be counted as an overseas player for the duration of his stay at Trent Bridge, which includes any potential knockout matches that Notts may play,” Nottinghamshire said when announcing his signing.
Amir could feature as a local player
If the move materialises, Amir is expected to be included as a domestic player for Trent Rockets as well. He has previously represented three Hundred franchises, London Spirit, Oval Invincibles (now called MI London), and Northern Superchargers (now called Sunrisers Leeds), across three seasons, making eight appearances in the competition.
In this edition, he would join fellow Pakistan players Abrar Ahmed, who will represent Sunrisers Leeds, and Usman Tariq, who is part of Birmingham Phoenix.
Fatima Sana also set for the Hundred
Besides the men’s contingent, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana will also feature in this year’s tournament after signing for Birmingham Phoenix. The all-rounder became the first Pakistani women’s cricketer to earn a contract in the Hundred.
