Babar Azam becomes only the third Pakistan captain besides Misbah-ul-Haq and Imran Khan to captain the side in at least 150 international games across formats.
Only behind Misbah, Imran
Misbah and Imran have led the side in 151 and 187 games, respectively. Babar crossed the mark in the second Test against West Indies, his second after being reappointed as the captain. In total, he has led the side in 22 Tests, 43 ODIs, and 85 T20Is.
Babar, who resigned from all-format captaincy in November 2023 after Pakistan suffered a premature exit in the ODI World Cup, was brought back as Test captain ahead of the West Indies series. In his previous stint as captain, Babar led the side in 20 Test games, out of which he oversaw the side lose only 4 games. Overall as well, he is one of the most successful Pakistan captains.
Among players who have captained the side in at least 100 games, Babar has the second-best win-to-loss ratio, 1.647, just a tick behind Sarfaraz Ahmed’s 1.694 at the top. Most of his success came in ODIs, where he won 26 out of 43 games, with a 1.77 W/L ratio.
