Bangladesh Win by 71 Runs in Asia Cup Opener- IPL

Bangladesh began their Asia Cup campaign with a comfortable 71-run win over Indonesia in Dubai. A strong bowling display, led by Marufa Akter and the spinners, proved too much for the debutants.

Indonesia made a strong impression on their Asia Cup debut with the ball. Their disciplined bowling restricted Bangladesh to 129 for 8 after the 20 overs. Sobhana Mostary marked her 100th international appearance with a team-high 40 runs. Shorna Akter added valuable late runs with 31 off 18 balls.

Indonesia’s new-ball bowler Ni Made Putri Suwandewi found movement from the start. Bangladesh’s openers still managed four boundaries during the opening two overs. Suwandewi soon made the breakthrough by dismissing Juairiya Ferdous. The batter mistimed an inswinger towards cover point, where Ni Ariani took a sharp low catch.

Mostary and Dilara Akter found the scoring rate difficult to lift after the early wicket. Bangladesh managed just one more boundary from the third over until the end of the powerplay. They finished the first six overs on 30 for 1.

Indonesia Keep Bangladesh Under Pressure

Indonesia’s spinners continued to bowl with control after the powerplay. Bangladesh’s batters struggled to find easy scoring options and often had to create shots. Their second-wicket partnership ended when Ariani had Dilara caught for 27 from 31 deliveries. Bangladesh reached 58 for 2 after 10 overs.

Mostary finally cleared the ropes in the 13th over for Bangladesh’s first six. Her attempt to increase the scoring was halted soon after. Sixteen-year-old legspinner Sofia Velic, playing her first international match, dismissed Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana.

Mostary remained Bangladesh’s main hope of reaching a competitive score. Indonesia kept the pressure on her, though. Ni Luh Dewi then struck twice in the 17th over, removing Mostary for 40 and Ritu Moni. Shorna provided a short burst of acceleration with a six and a four.

Bangladesh Finish Strong Enough

Indonesia’s bowlers prevented Bangladesh from making a late surge despite three dropped catches. Ariani then produced a decisive final phase with two wickets. Bangladesh fell from 105 for 3 to 129 for 8, losing five wickets for only 21 runs in 17 balls.

Shorna remained unbeaten after playing the most fluent late-innings knock for Bangladesh. She was left stranded at the non-striker’s end for much of the final over as Bangladesh finished on 129 for 8.

Marufa Leads the Bowling Attack

Marufa Akter gave Bangladesh the perfect start with the ball. She generated swing in both directions during her opening over and kept Indonesia’s batters cautious. Her first breakthrough came in the second over when Rahmawati Pangestuti edged a full delivery towards mid-on.

Marufa struck again in her following over. She trapped Maria Corazon lbw with another full delivery that swung sharply into the batter’s pads. Indonesia had lost both openers early, though their powerplay score was slightly better than Bangladesh’s effort.

Spinners Complete the Job

Bangladesh’s spin attack took control after the powerplay. Fahima Khatun ended captain Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini’s difficult innings in the ninth over. The legspinner trapped her lbw for just 2 from 15 balls.

Sanjida Akter Meghla added another wicket in the next over. She dismissed Ni Luh Dewi lbw after the batter missed a length delivery that moved into her pads. Nahida Akter then joined the attack and began Indonesia’s final collapse.

The decisive 14th over came from Nahida. She dismissed Suwandewi for 3 after a mistimed pull. Sofia Velic was then run out for 1 after a quick throw from deep fine leg. Nahida completed the over by bowling Ariani for 2. Indonesia were eight wickets down at that point.

Two more run-outs brought the innings to an end. Indonesia were bowled out for 58, giving Bangladesh a convincing 71-run victory in their Asia Cup opener. Nahida finished with excellent figures of 3 for 15, while Bangladesh’s combined bowling effort ensured Indonesia never recovered.
