The BCCI has issued a two-year ban on Rohit Yadav, the leg spinner from India U19, for falsifying documents. Rohit was a member of the India U19 tour in Sri Lanka this past July. The severity of the infractions were discovered by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in a pre-season document check. It was expected that Rohit would be included in India’s upcoming series against Australia, which includes five one-day games and three multi-day matches in September but he has now been excluded from the squad.
Rohit has played for Bengal in domestic cricket. The CAB made a comparison of the age records that resulted in a difference of 27 months. The punitive two year ban has been imposed immediately with all BCCI-affiliated state associations notified. Rohit is only one of the players that is being punished; the CAB has also banned 62 other players for committing similar offences.
BCCI Bans Rohit Yadav for Two Years
Ravi Kumar, the left-arm bowler, gained notability in India’s U19 World Cup victory in 2022. He consequently joined Bengal as a senior cricketer in 2022 and played his last game with the team in 2023. It has been claimed that Kumar’s age may have differed by over 40 months. Therefore, his stats from the beginning of his career until the 2025-26 season have now been deemed invalid.
The BCCI has been putting considerable effort over the past years to eliminate the issue of age-related corruption from junior cricket. In 2020, the board introduced an amnesty that allowed players who were willing to admit discrepancies in their records to escape sanctions. On the other hand, those players who failed to take advantage of the board’s amnesty, if it is confirmed that they have falsified their records, would certainly be punished.
Additionally, the BCCI has tightened its requirements regarding age verification. Players aged below nineteen now need to submit their birth and educational certificates as evidence of their accurate age. The recent measures demonstrate the seriousness of the BCCI in dealing with age-related issues.
