The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced elections for two posts on the IPL Governing Council. Electoral Officer AK Joti issued the notice under Rule 28 of the BCCI Constitution. The elections will be held during the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 18.
Rule 28 allows four members from the BCCI general body to serve on the IPL Governing Council. Two of these members are elected at the AGM. The current elected members are Himachal Pradesh’s Arun Singh Dhumal and Mizoram’s Khairul Jamal Majumdar.
Dhumal and Majumdar Set for Another Term
Dhumal is the chairman of the IPL Governing Council, while Majumdar is a member. Both are expected to be re-elected unopposed. Their terms are for one year, so they need to contest the election again.
The nomination process for the two posts will take place on September 9 and 10. The nominations will then be scrutinised. The final list of contestants will be announced on September 12. The other two general body representatives on the IPL Governing Council are BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and treasurer Raghuram Bhat. The council has seven members in total.

No Other BCCI Election Expected
The election notice only covers the two IPL Governing Council positions. This appears to rule out the possibility of an unexpected election for any other BCCI post at the AGM. No major change was expected, with the current office-bearers likely to remain in their respective positions.
The Electoral Officer has also asked BCCI Full Members to submit applications for including their representatives in the Electoral Roll. The state association representatives who attend the AGM will form the Electoral Roll for the election process.
State Associations Given August 31 Deadline
The BCCI has informed state associations to submit the names of their representatives who will attend the AGM. The nomination process for representatives began on August 25. The deadline for state associations to submit their applications is August 31. After the applications are checked, any objections will be considered and decisions will be taken on them.
The final Electoral Roll will be published on September 8. The process will then move towards the nomination stage for the two IPL Governing Council posts, with the AGM scheduled for September 18.
