BTS member Jung Kook’s selfie promise turns sour as sasaeng fans gather near his home

BTS star Jung Kook had offered to pose with fans who spotted him during a Han River run on June 1. But what followed left the singer in shock. The BTS member posted a video on Instagram Stories sharing that he was heading out for a Han River run, with the promise that anyone who managed to spot him during the workout could take a selfie with him. Soon photos and videos went viral online showing Jung Kook warmly greeting supporters and even helping them find the best lighting and angles for pictures. However, things went sideways not long after.

The sweet gesture had an unintended consequence, as obsessive sasaeng fans began gathering near his home. Jung Kook responded swiftly and without ambiguity. He shared a video message with a stern caption: “I didn’t mean for you to wait around near my home. I’m seriously gonna expose this.” The video showed him throwing rapid punches toward the camera, interpreted as a humorous yet unmistakably frustrated expression of his feelings about the situation.

For many in the ARMY fandom, the June 1 incident hit differently because of what led up to it. Jung Kook had extended a genuine, spontaneous gesture of goodwill toward fans, and a small number repaid it by crossing the one line he has drawn repeatedly over the years. Fan reactions online reflected that frustration. “Why would anyone go all the way to his house when he was simply being kind to fans?” wrote one user. “Because of sasaengs, even a well-intentioned event becomes impossible,” said another.

Many ARMY members condemned the actions of stalker fans, arguing that such behavior harms both the artist and the wider fandom. It also risks closing the door on the kind of unscripted, warm interactions that made this moment special in the first place.
