David Warner Arrested for Drink Driving During PSL 2026 Break in Sydney

David Warner, the captain of Karachi Kings in the PSL, has been arrested. The former Australian captain was allowed to go back home to Sydney earlier for personal reasons. Since Karachi wasn’t to play a match for a week and the franchise had won all 3 matches in PSL 2026, the franchise had no issues with Warner going on a short break.

However, things changed quickly. Karachi had beaten Rawalpindi by 5 wickets on Thursday, April 2. David Warner played a great innings, scoring 50 runs off 36 balls, which was his first half-century of the season. He left for Australia shortly after. Three days later, on Sunday, April 5, he was arrested on the charge of drink driving.

The 39-year-old was caught driving at twice the legal speed limit. He was stopped by police for a random check, and after failing a breath test, David Warner was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station. The legal limit for the breath test in New South Wales (NSW) is 0.05, but Warner’s was 0.104, which is about 21 times more.

“About 5:30pm today (Sunday, 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing, which returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104. The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle-range PCA [Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol] to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, 7 May 2026,” NSW Police said in a statement.

However, this will not affect his availability for Karachi on April 9, when they play their first home match of PSL 2026 against Peshawar Zalmi. David Warner has been released and will appear in a court in Sydney on May 7.

Since the PSL will end on May 3 in Lahore, he should have no issues in representing Karachi for the remainder of the season. Warner or Karachi is yet to make an official statement regarding the matter.
