England Complete 3-0 Test Series Sweep After 8-Wicket Win Over Pakistan- IPL

England beat Pakistan by eight wickets at Edgbaston to complete a 3-0 series sweep. Joe Root and Jordan Cox scored unbeaten half-centuries as England finished the chase before lunch on the fourth day.

Pakistan began the fourth day with a 129-run lead. Razaullah and Mohammad Abbas had added 121 runs for the ninth wicket on the previous evening. That partnership had given Pakistan hope after England looked close to another innings win. They needed early wickets on the fourth morning to put pressure on England.

Abbas Removes Both Openers

Mohammad Abbas gave Pakistan the start they wanted. He dismissed Ben Duckett in the first over with a ball outside off that took the edge to the keeper. Abbas then removed Emilio Gay. Gay missed a forward defensive shot and was hit on the front pad in line with the stumps. He reviewed the decision but could not overturn it.

Razaullah, the 21-year-old fast bowler, then came into the attack. He gave away 21 runs from his first three overs as Root and Cox began to settle. Pakistan thought they had dismissed Root for 23 when Mohammad Ali found the batter’s stumps. Root had chopped a length ball onto his stumps, but Ali had overstepped.

Root hit the next ball for four through square. Ali then bowled another front-foot no-ball in his next over. It was his 18th no-ball of the series.

Root and Cox Build the Chase

Root survived another chance on 34 when he edged Abbas between first and second slip. Neither fielder moved and the ball ran away for four. Razaullah returned after dealing with a split finger. Cox hit his fourth ball for a straight-drive boundary.

Pakistan then gave away more runs. A set of overthrows added four to Root’s score, while Razaullah also bowled one down the leg side that Cox sent to the boundary. Root completed his half-century from 57 balls. He cut Mohammad Imran Randhawa to deep backward point for four.

Cox reached his fifty soon after. He hit Saim Ayub through deep midwicket for another boundary. This was Cox’s third fifty of the series. He had also replaced injured No. 3 Jacob Bethell in the team and kept wicket during Pakistan’s second innings in this Test after Jamie Smith was injured.

Root and Cox stayed unbeaten to take England across the target. Cox scored the winning run after a misfield gave both batters enough time to complete the chase. The result completed a 3-0 Test series win for England. Pakistan had no answer after their brief fightback on the third evening.

Abbas Leads Pakistan’s Effort

Abbas finished the series as Pakistan’s Player of the Series. He took 13 wickets at an economy rate of 3.36. His 42 runs in the second innings was also his highest score in a 33-Test career. Razaullah also made a strong impact on debut.

Razaullah scored 81 off 63 balls, hitting nine sixes and four fours. He also took four wickets in England’s first innings. Pakistan also had useful contributions from Shan Masood, Babar Azam and Azan Awais. Masood made 95, Babar scored 76 and Awais made 59.

Robinson Named Player of the Summer

England dominated most of the series. Ollie Robinson was named Test Player of the Summer after taking 21 wickets at an average of 8.76 and an economy rate of 2.04.

Dan Lawrence was named Player of the Match in the final Test. He scored 65 in England’s first innings and took 2 for 17 with his off-spin in Pakistan’s second innings. He also took a good catch to dismiss Masood. Lawrence’s performance and Cox’s form could give England more options when they pick their next Test team.
