Sri Lanka have called up fast bowler Eshan Malinga and wicketkeeper Anjala Bandara for the two-Test series against Pakistan in November. Left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka has also returned to the team.
Bandara replaces Niroshan Dickwella, who played in the plans for the home Tests against India in August but has now been left out. Kusal Mendis will captain Sri Lanka in Tests for the first time after taking over from Dhananjaya de Silva.
Eshan Malinga and Anjala Bandara Earn First Test Call-Ups
Eshan Malinga has played regularly in Sri Lanka’s shorter formats, but the Pakistan series will be his first chance in Test cricket. The fast bowler has taken 44 wickets in 19 first-class matches at an average of 31.15.
Anjala Bandara has earned his place with strong performances in first-class cricket. The 22-year-old averages 65.85 in 31 matches, with seven centuries and seven half-centuries. His highest score is 200 not out.
Lahiru Udara and Kamil Mishara Left Out
Openers Lahiru Udara and Kamil Mishara have been dropped after playing in the second Test against India in Colombo. All-rounder Sahan Arachchige has also missed out. Dinesh Chandimal returns after leaving the first Test in Galle due to concussion. Pathum Nissanka’s selection depends on his fitness, and he will travel only after receiving medical clearance.
Sri Lanka’s Bowling Options for Pakistan Tests
Prabath Jayasuriya and Keshara Nuwantha are the main spin options, while all-rounder Sonal Dinusha adds another choice. Dinusha impressed in the recent series against India. The pace attack includes Milan Rathnayake, Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando, Dilshan Madushanka and Eshan Malinga. Vishwa Fernando has been dropped.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan Aim to Improve WTC Positions
The first Test will take place in Rawalpindi from November 9 to 13. The second Test is scheduled in Lahore from November 17 to 21. Both matches are part of the ongoing World Test Championship.
Sri Lanka are seventh in the standings with a points percentage (PCT) of 33.33. Pakistan are at the bottom with a PCT of 4.63, and both teams will look to gain valuable points from the series.
