BHOPAL: In the ongoing investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma, her mother-in-law and retired judge Giribala Singh has alleged that the 33-year-old underwent a medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) and claimed there had been a prolonged estrangement between Twisha and her parents.Speaking about the sequence of events, Singh said Twisha had initially expressed regret after beginning the procedure.“When she started the first course of the MTP, she said she wanted to reverse this, which I knew was not possible. She didn’t let us feel that fleeting moment of joy. It is truly heartbreaking; young girls often take this drastic step,” Singh said. She added a timeline of the procedure, stating, “On 7th May, she must have taken the pill; she completed the entire MTP procedure, and we had to support her.”Singh also made allegations against Twisha’s parents, questioning their absence and raising claims about her father’s background. She further said the matter was sub judice.“I also called her mother, as she was needed there. For five months, her parents never visited. We deliberately did not call her father, as he has a very strange personality. For nearly twenty years, he has been working in the pharmaceutical industry–specifically in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan; he could potentially be the source of many things. I think they were earning out of all her. But the matter is sub judice,” she alleged. She further told ANI that Twisha had been undergoing psychiatric treatment and was on medication.“It’s a profound loss for us because, whatever the circumstances, she was a part of our family. She went for psychiatric counselling also, and medicines were prescribed to her, which are given to a schizophrenic patient,” Singh said. She described fluctuations in Twisha’s condition, alleging signs of instability in the days before her death.“She would remain stable for a day or so, but then again, there would be a slight change in her condition. We observed some physical symptoms, a slight trembling in her hands, which is typical of withdrawal symptoms. She destroyed everything,” she added. The retired judge also alleged Twisha’s family pushed her into the glamour world at a very young age and claimed she remained under mental pressure because of it.Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, married Samarth Singh in December 2025. She died on May 12, with her family alleging dowry harassment and mental torture by her in-laws.On Monday, Navnidhi Sharma, the father of Twisha Sharma, demanded a fresh post-mortem examination, alleging a possible cover-up by her in-laws.Speaking to reporters, Navnidhi Sharma demanded that his daughter’s body be brought to AIIMS-Delhi for a second autopsy before it starts decomposing to ascertain the real cause of death. Sharma also rejected claims that his daughter consumed drugs and alleged that a drug-related case should instead be filed against his son-in-law, whom he described as a “major drug addict.“They are making allegations about drugs, but those allegations are false. In fact, if any drug-related case is to be made, it should be against their own son, because the whole world knows he is a major drug addict. I strongly suspect this was murder,” news agency PTI quoted Navnidhi Sharma as saying.
