Following Ryan Hurst’s major injury on the sets of ‘God of War’ live actions series, many had been left wondering about the future of the series. When it was confirmed that the lead role of Kratos would be recast, many then debated who would play the lead role after Hurst. Now, according to the latest updates, a beloved actor, who has worked in projects like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Knock at the Cabin’, is being considered to play the role of the fierce warrior born in Sparta.

Dave Bautista, who is best known for his role in the MCU film franchise ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, is being considered for the role of Kratos, the leading character of ‘God of War’ live action adaptation. Reports from Deadline suggest that Bautista is currently in talks of being cast in the lead role in the series. No comments on the matter have been made public so far from the production house.Reports further shared that since Kratos is a physically demanding character that requires a certain look, Bautista was one of the top choices for the production studios. Not only that, but the actor also recently finished filming for the brand new ‘Highlander’ film, which is another physically demanding role, for which he had already been training. The former WWE champion has worked on a lot of action roles, and has also worked on multiple projects from the production company behind the ‘God of War’ series.‘God of War’ was being filmed in Vancouver, up until production was halted in June after Ryan Hurst’s injury. The outlet also shared that preparation to film the series was pushed to mid-August to aim for a mid-October filming. Callum Vinson, who will play Kratos’ son, Atreus, will be joining the actor in the first season. However, new reports have also stated that the role will be cast again with an older version of Atreus in season two.

What happened to Ryan Hurst?

Ryan Hurst, who had originally been cast for Kratos, recently suffered from a major injury on the sets of the live-action series. TMZ reported at the time that the actor, who is also known for his work in ‘Sons of Anarchy’, ‘The Walking Dead’, and ‘The Abandons’, had torn his bicep during the filming. He had been performing a physically demanding stunt when the injury occurred. At first, the showrunners considered keeping Hurst on the project; however, after an initial checkup, it was discovered that he would require about 4 to 6 months of rest and recovery to properly heal.
