Harry Brook Reveals England's Preparation Plans Ahead of Australia ODI Series

After their poor performance in the Pakistan tri-series, England will face Australia in a three-match ODI series. Captain Harry Brook addressed the team’s difficulties in the buildup to the series and emphasized that preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, a year away, are underway.

During the Ashes series of 2025-26, England had no warm-up matches before the series, which led to their terrible 4-1 loss. Their batting and fielding was also under scrutiny because of the lack of practice.

England Focus on Better Preparation Ahead of Australia ODI Series

However, England will adopt a different strategy this time around. The team will play a warm-up match against Western Australia at WACA before the ODI series. Brook thinks that it will help players understand the conditions of Australia better than the last warm-up venue, Lilac Hill.

“The conditions (at the WACA) always feel a lot closer to Optus than Lilac Hill. The bounce, the carry, the pace of the pitch – it’s miles away from what Lilac Hill offered us. But, thankfully, we’ve got the opportunity to play here and train here over the last couple of days, and we’re looking forward to it,” Brook told the reporters, as quoted by Cricinfo.

“The key thing is to try and be one of the fittest and strongest sides in the world, to be able to try and dominate throughout that competition (World Cup). Obviously, whether you win or lose isn’t always there. You can never guarantee that, but the off-field… you can guarantee the off-field preparation can be a lot better. [That] can really help towards winning games,” Brook said.

The combination of the England team has sparked discussions. Adil Rashid was missing from three games during the series held in Pakistan, which gave Liam Dawson the chance to contribute to the team’s performance considering the conditions.

His exclusion has raised queries about the spinach bowling strategy of England. However he has performed successfully in his training sessions in Perth according to Harry Brook. Jacob Bethell should also be back in the team soon after his recovery from knee injury. But Ben Duckett and Tom Banton have done well as opening partners. Thus it will be important for England to come up with a plan in terms of where Bethell will need to play in the batting order.
