Elon Musk sends ‘let’s go to Space’ message hours after mid-term election results

Hours after mid-term election results, Elon Musk said that building data centres in space look increasingly “appealing right now”. The post comes following the Democrats’ strong performance in the US mid-term elections. Musk, who has been a prominent Republican supporter during the election cycle and reportedly spent over $150 million in Texas alone, shared two posts on X (formerly Twitter). “Data centers in space looking pretty appealing right now,” Musk wrote in the early hours of Wednesday, November 4, after election results pointed to a major victory for Democrats.“Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn’t work this time 🤷‍♂️,” Musk said in the second post, appearing to joke about his political influence and the election outcome.

Democrats wins Texas

The comments came as Democrats made significant gains, including a surprise victory in Texas’ governor’s race by Democrat Gina Hinojosa, who has opposed data centre expansion. Notably, Elon Musk and his companies – Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI have a growing footprint of high-performance computing (HPC), chip manufacturing, and data center-related infrastructure projects across Texas.Musk’s posts did not directly address companies such as Google, Amazon and Meta, which are expanding their data centre infrastructure to support AI development. The billionaire’s remark on data centres come as the AI industry faces growing political scrutiny over massive data centers, with concerns about electricity costs and environmental impacts becoming campaign issues.

US mid-term election rewrites history

The 2026 midterm elections in the US had a series of historic firsts so far. According to Rutgers University’s Center for American Women and Politics, nearly 300 women ran for the US House and Senate.
