India likely to announce Sri Lanka Test squad this week; Bumrah, Jadeja in line for comeback

India’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka is expected to be announced later this week, according to reports. Led by Shubman Gill, the team is likely to travel to Sri Lanka on August 4 and play a practice match before the Test series begins on August 15.

Some changes are set to be made in the squad from the one-off Test against Afghanistan, with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja set to return. According to the Times of India, the selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, is expected to meet formally this week to finalise India’s squad for the Test series.

India Squad Announcement Expected This Week

The selectors have already held informal discussions during India’s T20I and ODI tour of England. According to the report, they are now waiting for an update on Washington Sundar’s fitness. The all-rounder is set to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) after suffering a hamstring injury during the second ODI against England.

Washington Sundar is understood to have undergone scans following the match, with the reports sent to specialists for evaluation. Although the BCCI has confirmed it as a right hamstring injury, reports indicate that even a mild strain or Grade 1 tear could require around two weeks of recovery.

As a result, he is expected to be unavailable for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who were rested for the one-off Test against Afghanistan, are expected to return to the Test squad. The report states that Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar are likely to retain their spots in the squad, while the pace department will comprise of Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna apart from Bumrah.
