Jasprit Bumrah made a quick impact against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. He took a wicket in the first over of the match. Bumrah dismissed Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz with his third ball. The wicket was also his 350th T20 wicket for India.
Bumrah Reaches 350 Wickets
Bumrah became only the third Indian bowler to take 350 T20 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal are the other two Indian bowlers to reach the mark. Bumrah returned to the Indian team after missing matches due to a left knee injury. He picked up the injury while fielding during the second ODI against England. The injury ruled him out of the rest of the England series. He also missed India’s series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
Abhishek Sharma Takes the Catch
Bumrah’s first ball against Afghanistan went for five runs. The delivery went down the leg side and beat wicketkeeper Sanju Samson before reaching the boundary. Bumrah came back with a better delivery. Gurbaz got an inside edge, but the ball did not go to the boundary.
The next ball bounced more than Gurbaz expected. He tried to guide it towards the off side. The ball went towards Abhishek Sharma at second slip. Sharma dived to his right and took the catch. The wicket gave India their first breakthrough. It also completed Bumrah’s 350th T20 wicket.
Afghanistan Lose Early Wickets
Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran had said before the match that his team had plans to face Bumrah and India’s bowlers. The plans did not work in the early overs. Afghanistan lost four wickets inside the powerplay. Their fifth wicket fell in the seventh over. India’s bowlers put Afghanistan under pressure from the start.
