JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is reaching out to top executives in America, urging them to join an industry coalition to address the growing risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI) and critical infrastructure threats. At a time when tech companies race to adopt generative AI tools, the head of the largest US bank has contacted CEOs at major financial institutions, IT firms and regional energy providers to enlist them in the Alliance for Critical Infrastructure (ACI). Citing sources familiar with the matter, news agency Reuters reported that the personal outreach, which began in July, targets more than 40 leading corporations spanning financial services, energy, water utilities, telecommunications, airlines and rail transport.
Unifying critical infrastructure against AI threats
The expansion of the initiative aims to establish a unified framework for understanding AI deployment risks, setting technical safeguards and coordinating safety policies directly with the Trump administration. The report says that there have been concerns over cross-sector vulnerabilities that have intensified following recent cyberattacks against municipal water systems and critical infrastructure across several US states.The ACI was originally co-founded by JPMorgan Chase alongside Mastercard, Berkshire Hathaway Energy and other industry leaders to coordinate response strategies for physical, cyber and geopolitical threats. The coalition is now refocusing its resources to address machine learning vulnerabilities and autonomous cyber risks.“ACI leadership saw the need to prioritize AI years ago and got critical infrastructure companies working together. We are proud to support this important work,” Dimon said in an official statement, reports Reuters.
Jamie Dimon warns of unchecked frontier models
Dimon has emerged as one of the most vocal corporate leaders warning about the national security risks associated with advanced, unfiltered AI systems. During a public address last month, Dimon expressed concern regarding high-capability frontier models, specifically referencing Anthropic’s Mythos model, and called for strict access controls on powerful AI tools.“You’re giving ballistic missiles to individuals with Mythos,” Dimon warned, emphasising the need for proactive corporate and government oversight. According to the report, the ACI and Dimon are scheduling high-level executive calls throughout August to finalise collaboration terms and expand membership across essential service sectors.
