Bangladesh ODI captain Litton Kumar Das has been ruled out of the ongoing tri-nation series in the UAE involving Zimbabwe and Afghanistan due to a hip injury. Parvez Hossain Emon has been named as his replacement, while vice-captain Towhid Hridoy will lead the side in his absence.
Litton was expected to begin his tenure as Bangladesh’s full-time ODI captain against Zimbabwe. However, he was ruled out at the last minute after failing to pass a fitness test ahead of the match.
Litton Das Suffers Right Hip Joint Injury
Bangladesh Cricket Board physiotherapist Bayejedul Islam Khan confirmed that Litton reported pain in his right hip joint on Friday. An MRI scan subsequently revealed a problem that will keep him out of the remainder of the tri-nation series.
“Litton Kumar Das complained of pain in his right hip joint yesterday. We conducted an MRI, and the report showed that he has a problem in the right hip joint,” Bayejedul said in a video message released by the BCB.
Litton attempted to complete the fitness test on Saturday to determine whether he could play. However, he failed to meet the required benchmark and was declared unavailable for the series.
Emon, who last played an ODI in July 2025, has been called up as his replacement. Hridoy will captain Bangladesh for the remainder of the series in Litton’s absence.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz Yet to Recover From Fever
On the other hand, Bangladesh are optimistic that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will overcome his sickness and participate in the tri-series matches in the coming days. The all-rounder could not play the match against Zimbabwe as he suffered from fever for three days.
Mehidy did not go to the stadium and stayed in the team hotel. The management of the team had also allowed him some rest during practice as he was recovering. According to an official of BCB, Mehidy had not recovered yet but he had not been ruled out of the tournament.
“Mehidy is suffering from fever for three days and as a result he is not available for today’s match (against Zimbabwe) but he is not ruled out yet as we are expecting him to recover at some point during the tri-nation unless his condition deteriorates drastically,” the official said.
Bangladesh to Face Afghanistan on October 21
The next game for Bangladesh in the tri-series in UAE will be against Afghanistan on 21 October. It is hoped that Mehidy will be available for the match as the side plays its matches without the presence of their captain Litton.
