Mahima Makwana reveals about the design of the house and inclusion of wood, plants and colour
Before even buying the house, Mahima knew she wanted a boho aesthetic, heavy on wood, plants and colour. Working with her designers at Rekha Interiors, she said she was particular about every detail, right down to mixing different shades of brown wood to keep the palette from feeling monotonous.“I wanted to wake up to light. I’m obsessed with the sun,” she shared, adding that the moment she stepped inside, she knew she had to own the property. Inspired by a bohemian aesthetic, she envisioned a home filled with wood, greenery and vibrant colours from the very beginning.Nothing in the house, Makwana revealed, was bought off the shelf. Every piece of furniture was custom-made and built into the walls, a decision driven by the challenge of designing a functional space that still felt personal. The actress explained that she wanted the interiors to feel “raw yet furnished,” while maintaining a natural aesthetic throughout the home. She also shared that one corner of her living room has become her favourite place to read scripts, write and simply unwind after work.Beyond the design choices, the tour turned emotional as Mahima pointed out a framed photograph taken when her first home was inaugurated on May 1, 2014, coincidentally her mother’s birthday. She noted that the home tour was being filmed exactly 11 years after that milestone, calling her journey from her first house to her current one a big deal for her entire family. The tour also included her mother’s bedroom, designed around a green palette and featuring a wall dedicated to Mahima’s awards, an idea her mother insisted on.Giving fans a rare look inside her own bedroom, Mahima described it as the most personal space in the house. She revealed that she carefully selected a muted blue colour palette to create a peaceful atmosphere, while continuing her theme of incorporating natural light, handcrafted wooden textures and indoor plants throughout the room. She admitted she felt nervous about sharing such a private space, calling it one of the most sacred corners of her home.
