Authorities have detained Mohammed Sanoop under the stringent provisions of UAPA for allegedly posting an anti-national comment on social media while abroad

IDUKKI: A 26-year-old man was arrested and booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly posting an anti-national comment on social media in support of the Pahalgam terror attack.The accused, Mohammed Sanoop of North Paravur in Ernakulam district, was taken into custody by Karipur police in the early hours of Friday after he arrived at Karipur airport from Saudi Arabia, where he was working.He was later handed over to Muttom police in Thodupuzha as the case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Yuva Morcha state secretary Adeena Bharathi at Muttom police station.According to the complaint, Sanoop posted the objectionable comment under a media report carrying the account of the daughter of Ramachandran, the Malayali who was killed in the terror attack.A screenshot of the comment was submitted along with the complaint to Muttom police nearly a year ago. The complaint alleged that the anti-national remark was posted from abroad through social media.After a detailed probe, police found the offence to be serious in nature and proceeded with the arrest. The accused was produced before the Muttom court, which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.
