Pakistan top-order batter Shan Masood, who fractured his finger on day three of the opening Test against West Indies, could only play a limited role for the side on day four.
Masood fractures his finger
Masood scored a century in the first innings, helping Pakistan reduce the hosts’ 311-run first-innings lead. During his knock, however, the left-handed batter suffered a finger fracture after getting hit by a Jayden Seales delivery.
The fracture saw him not take the field during West Indies’ second innings on day four. That only lasted about an hour, after which the home team was dismissed, setting Pakistan a 211-run target.
Pakistan looking at a big defeat
Shan did not come out to bat at his usual one-down position, and when he did come out at No. 8, he could only last for 15 balls. He looked uneasy during his brief stay at the crease.
Pakistan found themselves in plenty of early trouble during the fourth innings, despite bowling West Indies out for just 181. Pakistan successfully dismissed seven West Indies batters in almost one and a half sessions.
At the time of writing, Pakistan are reeling at 78 for 9. While captain Babar Azam stays alive, the task is monumental by every means, especially with a No. 11 batter alongside him.
