Muneeba Ali will captain the Pakistan Women’s team in the upcoming ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2026, with their regular captain, Fatima Sana, set to miss the tournament. Sana was earlier signed by Perth Scorchers for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) this year, which will run from October 29 to December 5.
Pakistan retain 12 players from Asian Games squad
This means the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2026, set to be played from November 12 to 25, will completely overlap with the league. Muneeba has previously led the side in Fatima’s absence during the T20I series against Sri Lanka in July.
From the squad that won the bronze medal at the Asian Games last month, 12 players have been retained. Muneeba will have Ayesha Zafar as her second-in-command and a senior player in the batting line-up, which will include Eyman Fatima, Eman Naseer and wicketkeeper-batter Gull Feroza. Pakistan have also called up Sadaf Shamas and Waheeda Akhtar, both of whom missed the Asian Games.
The two pacers will be joined by Tasmia Rubab to form the pace attack, while Nashra Sandhu will lead the spin attack, including Momina Riasat, Tuba Hassan and Umm-e-Hani.
Pakistan drawn in Group B
Ten teams will feature in the tournament, divided into two groups. Pakistan have been drawn in Group B with Bangladesh, Thailand, the Netherlands and Zimbabwe. Group A, meanwhile, includes Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and the United Arab Emirates.
