Nahida Akter Named Bangladesh’s New T20I Captain
Nahida was expected to take over the role, as reported earlier by Cricbuzz. Sultana decided to leave the captaincy after the Asian Games so she could focus on her performance as a player.
“We sat with members of the selection panel along with others and decided to hand over the T20I captaincy to Nahida. Sobhana Mostary will be her deputy,” BCB women’s wing chairman Rafiqul Islam told Cricbuzz on Sunday.
“Nahida has been the vice-captain for a pretty long time and now we feel the time is right to give her the responsibility of our T20I squad,” Rafiqul said.
Nigar Sultana has stepped down as Bangladesh’s T20I captain but will continue to lead the ODI team. She also captained Bangladesh during their recent three-match ODI series in Australia. The Bangladesh Cricket Board was surprised by her decision. However, reports suggest that Sultana was unhappy with the way the board had treated her in recent times.
Bangladesh’s next tournament will be the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand. The team will begin its campaign against Pakistan on November 12.
