Notts sign Pakistan's Tayyab Tahir for a short stint in Metro Bank One Day CupPakistan batter Tayyab Tahir has struck a short deal with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club for the group stages in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. Tayyab, who has played 11 ODI games for Pakistan, will be available to play in Notts’ next three games against Kent, Northamptonshire, and Gloucestershire.

Tayyab to fill in for Munsey

Following the game against Gloucs on August 9, the Pakistan batter will return home to take part in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s National Champions Cup, where he is representing Pakistan Blues.

Tayyab, roped in as a replacement for Scotland’s George Munsey, has previously played under Notts’ head coach Paul Franks during one of his stints at Central Punjab. He was part of the Central Punjab squad that won the Pakistan Cup, the country’s List A competition, under Franks.

“From my time with Tayyab in Pakistan, I know he’s a player of real pedigree,” said Franks.

“His track record speaks for itself, and his positive character will fit right into our dressing room. When we signed George Munsey for the 50-over competition, we knew he’d miss some games this week through international duty with Scotland, so we were keen to secure the best possible replacement for this week’s games.

“Tayyab is a quality player, and we’re looking forward to having him with us.”

Tayyab excited to work with Franks

Tayyab ended the competition as the highest run-scorer, amassing a total of 573 runs in 12 innings, including a brilliant 71-run knock in the final.

“I’m really excited to play county cricket for Notts,” he said.

“I loved playing under Franksie in Pakistan, and the season we were together was one of the best I’ve had in my life. He was one of the best coaches I worked with, he was so approachable and created a really good environment.

“I will try my best to make a difference, and I want to make sure my time with Notts is memorable.”
