OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has admitted that the company does not want artificial intelligence (AI) to frighten people, saying the technology should give users more freedom, control and opportunities instead. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Sam Altman reflected on OpenAI’s recent challenges and said the company is preparing for what he believes will be its strongest year yet.
Sam Altman says OpenAI’s past year was not its best
In the post, Sam Altman said OpenAI did not have its strongest year over the past 12 months and took responsibility for it. “We did not have our best last 12 months ever, which is mostly my fault, but we are about to have our best 12 months to date.”He praised OpenAI employees for their work and suggested that new products and updates are on the way. “The team is doing amazing work and I think you’ll be very happy with what they’ve got cooking for you.”“We do not want to scare people”: Sam AltmanSam Altman said OpenAI’s main goal is to help its users succeed. “I am happy about this for many reasons, but mostly because I care about our users winning.” He further added that AI should create more opportunities for people rather than making them fearful.“AI has to be about giving lots of people more freedom, agency, and wealth.”In the X post, Sam Altman also acknowledged concerns around the technology and said OpenAI does not want people to adopt AI because they feel pressured or frightened.“We want to do the right thing, but we do not want to scare people into doing our thing,” he stated.
