The series, the official schedule for which will be announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is aimed at preparing both teams for the ODI World Cup next year.

This will only be the second time Australia will play a bilateral ODI series in Pakistan since 1998. Previously, they played three matches in April 2022, which the hosts won 2-1. Pakistan have a packed schedule ahead. After the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which ends on May 3, the team will travel to Bangladesh for a two-Test series from May 8 to May 20 as part of the World Test Championship (WTC). This will be only their third red-ball outing in the current WTC cycle, followed by Test series against England, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan are currently fifth on the WTC points table, having won one and lost one. The last time they played a Test match was in October 2025 against South Africa.
