Pakistan Women U19 lost their fourth consecutive game and fifth in the ongoing tri-series, which saw them crash out of the competition. The last nail in the coffin came in the form of Sri Lanka Women U19, who inflicted a heavy defeat on the hosts to script their fourth win on the bounce.
Sri Lanka bowl Pakistan out for 105
The two teams have played each other thrice in the series, with Sri Lanka winning twice while Pakistan bagging one. Their third clash came on Monday, where Pakistan, batting first, scripted a 105-run total. Former Sri Lanka men’s international Tillakaratne Dilshan’s daughter Limansa Thilakaratne was the wrecker-in-chief as she bagged three wickets. She was supported by spinner Yeshali Jithara, who dismissed both openers.
Barring Aqsa Habib and Shahar Bano, none of the other Pakistan batters could even get past 20 runs. Shahar Bano’s late-innings cameo of 18-ball 24 helped take Pakistan past 100. She was the only Pakistan batter to hit a maximum during the entire innings.
Sri Lanka chase down target to book final spot
If Sri Lanka had any doubts about failing to achieve this meagre target, they were dispelled by opener Sanjana Kavindi De Silva, who scored a quick-fire 46 runs. This helped the visitors gun down the target inside 14 overs. There were a few unnecessary fumbles by Sri Lanka, including a couple of run-outs orchestrated by Shahar Bano. Besides that, the chase remained largely untroubled.
For Pakistan, Mah Noor and Rozina Akram bagged one wicket each before Sri Lanka rushed to a six-wicket win to book a place in the final alongside Bangladesh. The two teams will play in a dead-rubber game, which will be the final preliminary match, before they face each other in the final on Friday.
