Ramesh Powar has been formally appointed to the BCCI men’s selection committee, which will be chaired by Pragyan Ojha. Powar replaces outgoing chairman Ajit Agarkar, while Ojha takes charge based on seniority in terms of Test appearances.
Ramesh Powar Unanimously Selected by CAC
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, oversaw the selection process at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. Powar was unanimously chosen after the committee screened candidates for the position. Ojha had been heading the selection panel on an interim basis. The former India left-arm spinner will now chair the committee following the appointment.
Ramesh Powar’s International Career and Coaching Experience
Powar represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs between 2004 and 2007. He has since held several coaching positions, including head coach of the India women’s team. Connor Williams and Jacob Martin from Baroda, along with Mumbai’s Wasim Jaffer and Salil Ankola, were also interviewed for the position. The interviews took place on October 15.
BCCI Appreciates Ajit Agarkar’s Contribution
The BCCI thanked Agarkar for his commitment and contribution during his tenure as chairman of the selection committee. His tenure included three ICC titles, two Asia Cup victories and two Asian Games gold medals.
