‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ is slowly taking shape, with the makers reportedly finalising its principal cast for the much-awaited sequel to Priyadarshan’s 2006 comedy. According to a report, Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav and Elvish Yadav are set to lead the new film, with Riteish expected to headline the project. While the sequel will feature an entirely new story, it will retain the original film’s mix of small-town characters, greed, unexpected wealth and comic chaos. Amit Joshi, who co-directed ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’, has been roped in to direct the sequel, which is expected to go on floors by end of this year.

According to the Bollywood Hungama report, Riteish Deshmukh, Elvish Yadav, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav have been signed for ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’. While Riteish is set to headline the film, the report stated that he is still going through the script and hasn’t officially signed on yet. The sequel brings back the original trio of Riteish, Paresh and Rajpal, with YouTuber and ‘Bigg Boss OTT’ Season 2 winner Elvish Yadav joining as a fresh addition to the principal cast.This will mark Elvish’s second Bollywood project, following his debut alongside Tiger Shroff and Remo D’Souza in an upcoming action drama. All actors have given verbal confirmation, with formal paperwork currently in process.

Released in 2006, ‘Malamaal Weekly’ was a commercial success and went on to be remade in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with Priyadarshan himself helming the Malayalam version. The original comedy followed Lilaram, a lottery ticket seller and the only literate man in his village. After a customer dies of shock upon winning a lottery, Lilaram devises a plan to claim the winnings for himself, only to find the rest of the village equally eager to get their hands on the money, sparking a wave of greed-fuelled chaos and comic rivalry.With its ensemble cast now falling into place, ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ is expected to recreate the same laugh-riot energy of the original while offering audiences a brand-new comedy of errors.
