Pakistan Women scripted the highest total in a WODI at National Stadium Karachi as they scored 330 runs against Zimbabwe Women in the first ODI.
In response, the visitors succumbed to a low score as Pakistan’s bowlers kept making regular inroads. This is Pakistan’s second win in the ongoing Women’s ODI Championship, having previously won against South Africa in March earlier this year.
Openers set the stage
Openers Sadaf Shamas and Gull Feroza, scoring 98 off 130 balls and 50 off 60 balls respectively, got the team off to a flying start. Both batters, much like most of the host batting order, scored runs off well-timed boundaries. This is Sadaf’s second consecutive ninety-plus score as she amassed 97 runs in the 3rd ODI against South Africa.
By the time the first wicket fell, Pakistan were steering comfortably at 162 in 28.3 overs. After Gull Feroza fell, Sidra Amin joined forces with Sadaf and stitched a quick 33 off 32 balls partnership. Sidra herself scored 67 runs, taking just 59 balls.
Precious Marange managed to turn things slightly in Zimbabwe’s favour, dismissing three players, including Sadaf Shamas, in her three consecutive overs. However, Najiha Alvi’s 56 off 30 balls brought Pakistan back on track as they played out 50 overs with an immense total on board.
Pakistan bowlers cut the chase
Fatima Sana drew first blood by dismissing Zimbabwe opener Christine Mutasa in the third over. Soon after, Najiha and Sidra ran out the other opener, Kelis Ndhlovu, leaving the visitors in trouble. Beloved Biza’s half-century helped Zimbabwe show some resistance, but after her dismissal, the chase quickly ended as Pakistan won the game by 168 runs.
Pakistan are now leading the three-match series 1-0, with the next ODI set to be played on May 6 at the same venue.
