Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is understood to have filed a complaint against his Lankan Premier League (LPL) franchise, Kandy Royals, to the Anti-Corruption Unit following an administrative error that sidelined him from the team’s game against Colombo Kaps.
Selection mix-up
Reportedly, Shaheen was supposed to be slotted in as an Impact Player in the game. The Impact Player rule allows teams to substitute one player from a list of pre-approved names in place of another player.
As an Impact Player, Shaheen would have joined the side, who batted first, when they took the field in the second innings. However, he was informed during the game that, due to an administrative error, his name had not been included in the official team sheet, which meant he could not be brought into the match.
Officials apologize
Unhappy with the development, Shaheen reported the matter to the Anti-Corruption Unit and the incident was brought to the match referee’s attention. According to reports, the Pakistan pacer was ready to withdraw from the league following the game but stayed on after officials reportedly apologised for the confusion.
Having been slotted in as a late inclusion, Shaheen is playing his maiden LPL season. He has played four games and taken seven wickets so far, with his best coming against Jaffna Kings on Sunday when he grabbed three scalps.
