Shamar Springer has been confirmed as a part of the West Indies squad for their upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has stated that Keemo Paul will be returning home for family reasons.
28-year-old Springer is an all-rounder who has experience in batting and seam bowling, although he does not have any Test caps to date. He has played a total of three One-Day Internationals and 12 T20 Internationals for West Indies cricket.
Springer has played 23 first-class matches scoring 1,043 runs at an average of 32.59. He has also taken 58 wickets in first-class matches, with an average of 27.87.
Springer had a successful run in the West Indies Championship in 2026, having scored 251 runs in four matches at an average of 50.20 while also taking seven wickets over eight innings at an average of 42.00.
West Indies Have Several Players Missing
The West Indies will have to do without a few key players during their Test series against Bangladesh. White-ball captain Shai Hope has been rested, and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been omitted from the squad for management purposes.
Paul had already been named as Joseph’s replacement in the squad, but he has now been replaced by Springer. Both Springer and Paul were part of West Indies’ white-ball series in India which ended on October 17 with the cancellation of the last T20 match due to rain. In this tour, the West Indies lost the ODI series 2-1, but tied the T20 series 2-2.
