South Africa Women Beat India Women by 8 Wickets, Take 2-0 Series Lead

South Africa Women won easily and now lead the 5-match WT20I series 2-0. They beat the current WODI champions by 8 wickets. South Africa Women won the toss and elected to bowl first. After a solid start from Shafali Verma (57 runs) on her 100th appearance, the Indian batting lineup collapsed from 99/3 in 12.4 overs to 147 all out by the end of the innings.

Chloe Tryon led the charge with the figures of 3/22 from 4 overs, and she was aptly supported by Tumi Sekhukhune’s 3/31 from 4 overs. Nadine de Klerk and Nonkululuko Mlaba secured a wicket each to round up a good bowling effort from the hosts.

Come the chase, India Women did not start well with the ball, and it allowed Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus to settle in and break the back of this chase with a 106-run opening partnership. Laura Wolvaardt set the pace in the partnership with an eventual score of 54 runs off 37 balls. While Sune Luus played the perfect foil, ending up with 57 runs off 46 balls.

Shreyanka Patil dismissed both the openers in her final 2 overs, but it was too little too late for India. Tazmin Brits was dropped twice in the field, and in the end, she stayed unbeaten on 20 runs off 17 balls, and with Annerie Dercksen in two at 12 runs off 7 balls, the duo guided their team over the finish line with 17 balls to spare.

All in all, a disappointing outing for India Women, and it leaves them with a mountain to climb in the remainder of this series. South Africa Women will be happy with the performance today, and will hope they can seal the series early in the next game.
