Sri Lanka fined for maintaining a slow over rate in England ODI Tri-series clash- IPL

Sri Lanka fined for maintaining a slow over rate in England ODI Tri-series clashSri Lanka have been fined 5% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over rate during the tri-series ODI against England in Lahore on Thursday. Sri Lanka were found to be one over short of the target, taking the allowed time delays into account.

Mendis accepts sanctions for slow over rate

Match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees charged the side with five per cent of their match fees per over under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences, ranging from five (in T20Is) to 20 (in ODIs/Tests) per cent of match fees.

Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis accepted the sanctions, making a formal hearing unnecessary. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Wayne Knights and fourth umpire Nassir Hussain levelled the charge.

This was the second time during the tri-series that Sri Lanka were penalised for slow-over-rate-related offences. Previously, they were fined 5% of their match fees for falling behind the target by one over against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.

Sri Lanka’s all-format tour of Pakistan

Despite failing to win the trophy, Sri Lanka have had a fairly decent time during the tri-series, where they bagged two wins in five games and put up a good fight against both England and Pakistan in the last two games. The hosts Pakistan got over the line in the final, chasing Sri Lanka’s 325 with three wickets to spare.

While England, the third team in the tri-nation series, have flown back home, Sri Lanka will remain in the country for their upcoming red-ball tour. Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play a two-game Test series, which will be the last Test assignment for both teams this year. The series will begin on November 9 in Rawalpindi.
