Sri Lanka Women 96/9 in 18.5 Overs | West Indies vs Sri Lanka Live Score, Women’s T20 World Cup: Vishmi Gunaratne backs Lanka to build on New Zealand upset against West Indies

West Indies vs Sri Lanka Live Score, Women’s T20 World Cup: Confidence and belief continue to grow within the Sri Lanka Women’s camp as they prepare for a pivotal Group B encounter against West Indies Women at the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bristol. Fresh from a memorable upset over defending champions New Zealand, Sri Lanka are aiming to build momentum and keep the race for the semifinals wide open.

Opening batter Vishmi Gunaratne highlighted the importance of the batting department’s contribution in the victory over New Zealand but insisted the team has already shifted its focus to the challenge ahead. According to the youngster, Sri Lanka made full use of three practice days to settle on their plans and preparations before arriving in Bristol.

Gunaratne also revealed the figures who have shaped her cricketing journey. Indian superstar Virat Kohli remains her biggest inspiration, having admired him since childhood. Within the dressing room, she drew motivation from every teammate and praised new head coach Jamie Siddons for his positive outlook and his emphasis on fearless, aggressive cricket.

Conditions at the County Ground presented an intriguing challenge. Pitch analysts Julia Price and Isobel Joyce observed 11 millimetres of grass on the surface along with slight moisture, factors that influenced West Indies captain Hayley Matthews to choose to bowl first. However, they suggested that spin bowlers could ultimately prove decisive because of the dimensions and bounce available at the venue.

Despite losing the toss, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu expressed confidence in her side while warning against complacency. Although Sri Lanka had beaten West Indies in the Caribbean earlier in the year, she emphasized that professional teams must adapt to different venues and conditions.

With both sides chasing semifinal qualification, the Bristol encounter promised to be one of the defining contests of Group B.
