Australia levelled the Test series against Bangladesh 1-1 with an innings-and-51-run win in the second Test at Mackay. The result came after their nine-wicket defeat in the opening Test at Darwin and gave Australia an important boost in the World Test Championship campaign. Bangladesh were bowled out for just 64 in their first innings. Mitchell Starc produced a superb spell with the new ball and finished with 6/12 from 10 overs.
Starc made an immediate impact by taking a wicket with the first ball. Shadman Islam edged the delivery, with Cameron Green taking the catch at gully. Starc then removed Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto in the same over to leave Bangladesh at 9/3.
Mominul Haque became Starc’s fourth wicket at 10/4. Litton Das was then trapped lbw, giving Starc his fifth wicket. The left-arm pacer completed his six-wicket haul when Shoriful Islam was caught behind by Alex Carey for 14. Pat Cummins added three wickets to Australia’s strong bowling effort, while Josh Hazlewood took one. Bangladesh were dismissed in 34 overs, with Taijul Islam unbeaten on 11.
Green Leads Australia’s First Innings
Australia replied with 210 in 52.3 overs to take a 146-run lead. Cameron Green top-scored with 67 from 105 balls, hitting 10 fours as he held the innings together after Australia lost wickets regularly. Steven Smith made 42 from 74 balls and struck six fours. Nathan Lyon finished unbeaten on 32 from 62 deliveries, with four fours and a six. Travis Head added a quick 22 from 27 balls.
Shoriful Islam was Bangladesh’s best bowler and claimed 7/48 from 15 overs. He dismissed Head, Marnus Labuschagne and Smith before removing Green. Taskin Ahmed, Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each.

Bangladesh Bowled Out Again
Bangladesh struggled again in their second innings and were dismissed for 95 in 38.3 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 31, while Mushfiqur Rahim stayed unbeaten on 29. Starc continued his impressive performance by taking four more wickets. Cummins and Lyon claimed three wickets each, with Cummins conceding only 10 runs from his 10 overs. Lyon finished with figures of 3/25.
Bangladesh slipped from 51/4 to 95 all out as Australia’s bowlers kept striking at regular intervals. The visitors had no answer to the pressure and Australia completed an innings-and-51-run victory to draw the series 1-1.
