CHAMOLI: At least 16 workers trapped inside an under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district were rescued after a sudden surge in water levels following heavy rains, news agency PTI reported quoting officials on Thursday.As per the PTI report, the workers were trapped inside the HCC tunnel after water suddenly entered the structure amid heavy rainfall in the area.Police and administration teams rushed to the site after receiving information about the incident and launched a rescue operation, officials said.The rescued workers were brought out safely, while efforts were continuing to evacuate those still trapped inside the tunnel, PTI reported.The situation inside the tunnel remained critical due to the sudden and heavy inflow of water. Rescue teams and the local administration were closely monitoring the situation and coordinating the evacuation efforts, officials said.The administration was also gathering detailed information about the incident, including the number of workers who were inside the tunnel when the water entered.Further details about the condition of the remaining workers and the extent of the water ingress were awaited.(With agency inputs)
