Glenn Phillips and Tim Seifert helped New Zealand chase India’s target of 192 runs, winning the match by seven wickets with 12 balls remaining. Seifert scored 93 runs after being dropped on 13. Phillips also broke the record for the most runs scored by a batter in a bilateral T20I series. New Zealand ended the series with a win, but India won the series 3-2.
Earlier in the evening, New Zealand won the toss for the first time in the series and opted to bowl first. Adam Milne was on fire at his happy hunting ground and dismissed the dangerous Indian openers early. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer struck fifties to get India back in the game, but Blair Tickner and Nathan Smith made good use of the pitch and controlled the second half of the innings. Naman Dhir and Nitish Kumar Reddy hit cameos to take India above 190 before Milne returned and finished with a brilliant 4/19 to keep the visitors to 191/8.
New Zealand Beat India by Seven Wickets as Seifert and Phillips Shine
Finn Allen fell early to Arshdeep Singh, but Tim Seifert and Daryl Mitchell steadied the ship with an excellent 73-run partnership. Seifert, who struggled throughout the series until tonight, got a let-off when Naman Dhir dropped a sitter at deep backward point. He made full use of it, gained confidence and hit a match-winning 93 off 50 balls.
Mitchell looked good for his 29 as he got another start in the series, but was taken care of by Varun Chakaravarthy, who was playing his first game of the tour. Another 86-run partnership followed it up as Seifert and Glenn Phillips put the game to bed. Seifert missed out on his maiden T20I ton, while GP continued his dream series, scoring yet another half-century and fittingly finishing the game in style.
