A carrom ball is a special type of delivery in cricket where spin is applied to confuse the batter regarding the direction of the spin of the ball. The bowler uses the middle finger to release the ball which is akin to flicking the striker while playing carroms, thus giving the delivery its name.
How Does a Carrom Ball Work?
At the moment of throwing the ball, the bowler grips the ball with their fingers and then spins it. This helps to increase the rotation of the ball. Once the ball lands on the pitch, it will move in an unpredictable direction. Occasionally, instead of rotating, the ball can move straight through the air.
Why Is It Difficult to Face?
The most important benefit of a carrom ball is that it can bewilder the batsman. The bowling action could look like it’s just a simple spin delivery, but it could be different once it strikes the ground and moves in an unexpected direction. The batsman expects one particular movement of the ball and ends up making a mistake, thereby allowing the bowler to take a wicket.
