Why did Hundred franchises raise concerns over Mohammad Amir's signing?Mohammad Amir will represent Trent Rockets, partially owned by his Vitality Blast team, Nottinghamshire, in the upcoming Hundred edition. The signing was confirmed by the Rockets on Friday as they finalise their squad before the tournament begins on July 21.

He previously went unsold during the Hundred auction, where he had registered himself for a £75,000 reserve price. However, David Payne’s right ankle injury made way for the Pakistan pacer to be included in the squad.

Amir’s signing as a domestic player

The signing, however, brought its fair share of eyebrow raises. Amir was signed as a local player after acquiring British citizenship in May. He qualified for citizenship through his wife, who is a British citizen.

But there were concerns that he entered the auction as an overseas player, which is why teams who had plans of roping him in, not as an injury replacement, couldn’t do so.

The England and Wales Cricket Board, however, approved the signing, maintaining that Amir’s passport should allow him to be treated as a domestic player in the tournament.
