UJJAIN: A 30-year-old married woman was allegedly assaulted and publicly humiliated by her live-in partner’s father, relatives and villagers under Jharda police station, around 60km from Ujjain district headquarter, on Tuesday afternoon.Her clothes were torn, her face blackened, her hair cut and she was paraded through the village wearing a garland of shoes. The matter came to the fore on Wednesday.Police have registered a case naming 11 accused, including the man’s father, based on the woman’s complaint. The charges include use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty, use of criminal force to disrobe a woman and criminal intimidation.Three people have been arrested.According to police, the woman had married in the village 12-14 years ago but left her husband about three-four years ago to live with another village youth. She later filed a rape case against the youth, and he was sent to jail.After his recent release, she resumed living with him — a development that reportedly angered his family, leading to Tuesday’s assault.Rural ASP Karandeep Singh confirmed the sequence of events, saying the man’s relatives were angered by the woman’s decision to live with him again after the rape case, and that they carried out the attack as a result.Station in-charge Anand Bhabhor said further arrests were underway, with police working to identify the remaining accused.
