Actor Yash has showered praise on his ‘Ramayana’ co-star Ranbir Kapoor, saying audiences will witness “a beautiful Rama” when the highly anticipated epic hits theatres this Diwali.Speaking at the ‘Ramayana’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con in the US on Thursday, the actor, who essays Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation of the Indian epic, lauded his co-star’s dedication to portraying the character with reverence and devotion.
Yash on Ranbir Kapoor’s casting as Lord Rama
Reflecting on Ranbir’s approach to playing Lord Rama, Yash said, “Nobody in this world can come and say, ‘I have the virtue to play Lord Rama’. The fact that he (Ranbir) said, ‘I can’t do it’, says it all.”Yash went on to commend Ranbir’s commitment to the role, “He is a fabulous actor. It’s not easy to play Lord Rama, and the way he has really worked, huge respect to him. He’s a fantastic actor. He has worked very hard, and when you watch Ramayana, you will see a beautiful Rama, with great intent and great sacrifice.”

Yash on playing Ravana
Before taking over the big stage, Yash, in a conversation with Rama’s Screen, opened up about the challenge of portraying Ravana, one of Indian mythology’s most iconic and complex antagonists. He said, “Well, it was a pleasure. The challenging part is that because it’s a story which everybody knows, and it’s a story which has been told in many ways. So many people have acted in small plays from a small village to television to movies in each regional language. People have been playing this character. To play it in a unique way and make it still look authentic and also very unique in its own way was the challenging part.”Hinting at what audiences can expect, Yash teased that his version of Ravana, saying, “I think I’ve tried something which might be very exciting for people.”
‘Ramayana’ cast and release date
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The film is slated to release in two parts, with the first instalment arriving in theatres on Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in 2027.
