Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could make several changes to their squad before IPL 2027. The five-time champions may look to build a stronger and younger team after another disappointing season.
CSK had several players in their 2026 squad who did not get regular opportunities. The franchise could review their performances and make some tough decisions before the next auction. The official IPL squad list included players such as Jamie Overton, Mukesh Choudhary and Shreyas Gopal.
1. Jamie Overton
Jamie Overton could be one of the players CSK may release. The England all-rounder gives the team an overseas pace-bowling option, but CSK have several other choices in this department.
With limited overseas slots available, CSK could decide to use the spot on a player who better suits their plans for IPL 2027.
2. Shreyas Gopal
Shreyas Gopal could also be released by CSK. The leg-spinner has experience in the IPL, but CSK have other spin options in their squad.
Noor Ahmad and Rahul Chahar give CSK strong choices in the spin department. If Gopal does not get regular opportunities, the franchise could look for a younger option.
3. Aman Khan
Aman Khan is another player who could be under consideration. CSK have several Indian all-rounders and young players who can compete for places in the playing XI.
If Aman fails to get enough chances, CSK could release him and use the squad spot for another player who fits their future plans.
4. Mukesh Choudhary
Mukesh Choudhary has been part of CSK’s setup for several seasons and provides a left-arm pace option. However, CSK have other Indian fast bowlers, including Khaleel Ahmed and Gurjapneet Singh.
The franchise could decide to strengthen this area by bringing in a different left-arm or Indian pace option before IPL 2027. Mukesh was part of CSK’s 2026 squad listed by the IPL.
5. Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz Khan could also be considered for release. The right-handed batter has domestic and international experience but may find it difficult to secure a regular place in a CSK batting line-up that has several options.
CSK could choose to give more opportunities to younger batters and use Sarfaraz’s squad spot for another player.
CSK Could Make Major Changes
CSK released several players before IPL 2026, including Devon Conway, Deepak Hooda and Andre Siddarth. The franchise could again make some changes before the 2027 season.
Releasing a few players would give CSK more flexibility to strengthen their batting, bowling and all-rounder options at the next auction.
