With 23 scalps next to his name, Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali is currently the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing Vitality Blast. But he wasn’t his usual self against Lancashire, whose batters made sure to make it a forgetful day for him and Yorkshire, who will have to wait longer to break into the quarter-finals.
Lancashire batters strike gold
Batting first after calling it right at the toss, Lancashire skipper Keaton Jennings found his way out in the second over for a nought. However, the damage was quickly recovered by a brilliant second-wicket stand between Ben McDermott and Liam Livingstone.
The two batters brought up 77 runs off just 41 balls setting the stage for the rest of the batters to get going, who did not falter in the least. Matty Hurst, Shadab Khan, Michael Jones, and Jack Blatherwick helped the side score 110 runs in the second half of the innings.
Shadab vs Hasan
Shadab even had a go at his compatriot Hasan, who had to endure two sixes and a four off the all-rounder. In total, Hasan Ali gave away 47 runs in four overs for just one wicket. These are his joint third-worst bowling figures in his T20 career.
A 217-run target was always a hard ask and became more so when Yorkshire lost half the team in seven overs. The late middle-order including bowlers Andrew Tye and Hasan Ali, who had previously rescued the side from a similar situation, could not get the team over the line despite their efforts.
Matthew Revis, Logan van Beek, Tye, and Hasan paired up for 145 runs off 81 balls but the damage caused by the batters up in the order did not budge, as Lancashire won the game by 22 runs.
