India Win Eighth Women’s Asia Cup Title After 72-Run Victory Over Sri Lanka- IPL

India won their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title after beating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai on September 13, 2026. It was India’s fourth title in the T20 format.

India were put into a strong position by Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. The pair added 129 runs for the first wicket, the highest partnership for any wicket in Women’s T20 Asia Cup history.

Shafali attacked from the start and reached her fifty from 24 balls. It was the fastest half-century in Women’s T20 Asia Cup history. Mandhana also scored freely and reached her fifty from 36 balls.

Sri Lanka finally broke the partnership in the 13th over. Chamudi Praboda dismissed Shafali after she mistimed a shot to cover. Mandhana was then run out six balls later after a mix-up with Harmanpreet Kaur.

India Finish With 183

Mandhana made 59, while Shafali scored 50. Richa Ghosh added 15 before being caught at cover. Sri Lanka bowled well at the end of the innings and took the wickets of Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma from successive balls in the 19th over. G Kamalini then hit a four and a six from the final two deliveries to take India to 183 for 5.

Sri Lanka Struggle in the Chase

Sri Lanka needed 184 runs to win but lost Imesha Dulani early. She first hit a four against Kranti Gaud before trying another scoop. She missed the ball and was bowled.

Sri Lanka also lost Vishmi Gunaratne after she appeared to hurt her ankle while returning the ball. She later returned to bat at No. 3. Chamari Athapaththu tried to lead the chase but could not build a big partnership.

Athapaththu hit Shafali for a six and a four, but she was dismissed for 36 in the 10th over. Deepti Sharma had her stumped after the ball turned away sharply. Deepti then bowled Gunaratne in the same over.

India’s Spinners Seal the Win

India’s spinners took control after the powerplay. N Shree Charani dismissed Harshitha Samarawickrama for 9 with a sharp return catch. Charani then took two wickets in the same over. Kavisha Dilhari was caught at short third, while Nilakshika Silva top-edged a shot to deep square leg.

India dropped five catches, but Sri Lanka could not make use of those chances. Deepti Sharma took three wickets, while Charani finished with 4 for 20. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111 on the final ball of the innings. Charani and Deepti finished as the top two wicket-takers of the tournament. The victory gave India their eighth Asia Cup title. India also extended their strong record against Sri Lanka in Asia Cup finals, moving to 6-1 in final meetings.
