Back injury is quite common among fast bowlers. Moreover, Akash Deep has long been troubled by back issues.

He faced similar problems last year when he was playing for Lucknow Super Giants. He performed well in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but had to miss the final match because of an injury. After that, in England, he played three matches and took 13 wickets but got injured again.
Before IPL 2026, he got injured in the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26. He took 22 wickets. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. He may be back around September.
Akash Deep has participated in ten test matches for India. He has not yet played any white-ball cricket. However, he will also miss the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka in August.
